I'm like most people, I have goals, and I've had them for most of my life, what I want to know is how to keep the same goals and not change them for another, or at least know that I am not the only one that this has happened to, and what is it that you as a person did to adapt to the change.
As a kid I wanted to be a doctor, I used to picture myself wearing a lab coat and doing stuff in a hospital, or being just a scientist, but I also told myself "I will never join the military". As I started in middle school and high school I used to daydream of myself as a chemist, which is a slightly more specific role. Senior year comes by and I procrastinate on my college applications and get rejected to the ones I applied to, for being too late, and joining the military did not seem like a bad idea anymore.
I picked up the and ed the USMC recruiter, and a few months later I was going through boot camp. A few times in there I wondered if I made the right choice, I still wanted to be a scientist of some sort, but was not too sure. I finished my 4 years active and then returned to WA, where I decided to start school to work with computers, since I thought "well I liked working with computers while I was enlisted". I did good, I got my AA in computer networking, but I still didn't feel like that was it for me.
Now I am studying regular computer science, and java programming seemed hard to me, but I didn't give up, I'm still going at it. When I start coding I can spend a good 4 or 5 hours, but I find it difficult to get started, no idea why. I am also wondering if I should return to my original plan on becoming a doctor or a scientist, let alone what to do for the rest of my life. Looking back at my life, I've have taken some unexpected turns, and I would probably say I have no idea what the hell I am doing with this thing ed life. I wonder how many people feel that way.
I've gone from wanting to be a doctor, to scientist, then did a 180 and became that which I said I would never be by joining the USMC which I don't regret, and now I am somewhat close to becoming some sort of scientist, so I guess back on track right?
