I'm surrounded by ultra-marathoners: my friends are ultra-marathoners, my co-workers are ultra-marathoners, my acquaintances are ultra-marathoners... how did this happen? Oh, right, I'm an educated (Ph.D. student) person living in Boulder.. obvious dilemma. I've run a couple miles... probably collectively, across a lifetime, running for busses and things of the sort. I happen to have "missed the bus" on this "acquired" lifestyle, it is, as I like to categorize it, a "learned behavior" of no pain, no gain. I grew up in a family that "appears" to be quite fit and athletic, but the reality is DEFINITELY contrary to this perception. I feel that this is less of a blessing than a curse, and realize that "looking" athletic doesn't stave off and future obesity, and a host of other ailments, I'm sure. A realization that probably would have NEVER entered my consciousness unless I had moved here a couple years ago. I'm not the kind of person that possesses "internal" motivators, things that "get me going" are ENTIRELY from external motivators... mostly people, as I find people endlessly fascinating, and place a lot of my energy and importance upon in my daily life. If you've stopped reading before this point, that's excellent, because you're the kind of person that really isn't an altruist, because this confession wouldn't interest you in the least. If you're still reading this, you're most likely all a runner, altruist, and curious about people.. we will probably get along. I'm really seeking a person who has "been there and done that" in the running world that wants to spread their insights about the journey to a person that "struggles" with getting over the 'hump' of "Oh my , why would anyone run" and helping that person get to the point of "wow, I 'kind of' like this, and this may change my life somehow". I honestly, truly, really want to run, I've just never had a reason to get there, but I know this will be eternally important in my life, I just need someone to kick my ass for a couple weeks, and help me BELIEVE that running is a life changing sweet adult ready flirt matures wanting sex experience.
